Nora Berman
During her weekly livestreams on Twitch, Nora Berman overlays images of spinning flowers and pendulums onto multi-camera views of the artist painting, so that the Stream feels like an extension of the psychedelic universes of her paintings.In these clips, Nora often collaborates with her viewers, asking them to help her make artistic decisions.
In her exhibitions, Nora expands this digital world into the gallery space: she has affixed ceramic roses from the ceiling, so they appear weightless. At the bases of her video-sculptures are metal chains and thousands of her own meme-coins made out of gold-covered chocolate.
In her paintings, the same imagery appears: coins, chains, flowers and fishtails emerge from supernovas, as if made from smoke. The idealized female body in her paintings is as diaphanous as the digital universe in which Nora streams, but her insistence of bringing the viewers along on her journey, no matter how performative, feels grounded and real.
